The following excerpt is quoted from a 1940 printed Range Call booklet.

Range Call Rodeo ~ Old Range Call Photo "From its humble beginning fifty-five years ago, [1885] when cowboy and cattle rancher and prospector gathered for one day's jollity, on July 4 of each year, Meeker's annual July Fourth celebration has grown to one of the biggest and finest frontier shows in all the west. The name Range Call was chosen three years ago and in those three years has become noted for its clean, exciting and colorful western showmanship....To the most outstanding cowboy of the Rodeo a silver cup is awarded each year. This year a sweater or its equivalent, $20.00, is also to be awarded to the sweetheart of the cowboy who wins the cup. These awards are made possible through the generosity of Edward S. Tooth, for the promotion of western sportsmanship." |
